Wu Hung-i, nicknamed Pineapple (鳳梨/ 吳泓逸) is a Taiwanese influencer with almost 1 million followers on Instagram. With that amount of followers, he is constantly in the public eyes.
Recently, a netizen dug up the 31-year-old’s past regarding a scam amounting to NT$470k (~RM68k) that he committed on an old lady. The netizen demanded for him to apologize after exposing him. On 10th April 2023, Pineapple posted on his social medias a written apology and explained regarding the case.
From his post, Pineapple explained that only his family and the old couple living at Kaohsiung City know about the actual situation. “I was 19 at that time. My family accompanied me to find this old lady in Kaohsiung City and we wrapped a red packet (红包) and gave it to her. I offered my deepest apologies to the old lady while being accompanied by my parents, and later I served my sentence in jail…”
He later added that the reason why he was unwilling to speak of this case is because he felt very sorry that his old self did such a thing. “When I see an old and gray-haired person, I will feel very sorry. The grandma was already very old at that time. A couple of decades have already passed now, I’m not even sure if the old lady is still in good health. So, why do you insist on bringing up something that has caused hurt to the family?”
Pineapple stated in his post that there’s a lot of frivolous and rebellious youngsters in this society just like his past self, therefore the right thing to do is to guide them with the correct practices.
Before ending his post, he thanked the public for giving him the chance to make up for his past mistakes. He will give his all to do what he thinks is right in the present and future. He even mentioned that he was invited by the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation next month for a charity sale in hopes to build a hospital for people in the vegetative state.
Pineapple lastly urged for the public to remember one thing, “I’m not a celebrity, an influencer or a YouTuber, I’m just someone who’s doing business and trying to survive. I can’t changed the mistakes that I have made in the past, but I’ll try all I can to contribute to the community in the future. I’ve been taking up a lot of media coverages and community resources these few days, and for that I sincerely apologize.”
Upon seeing the Pineapple’s post, netizens showed great support towards the influencer.
- “You’re already really awesome, don’t be so hard on yourself.”
- “When looking at the various comments, don’t forget to look at us supporter’s comments too.”
- “Thank you for your hard work.”
- “Fighting! You can do it!”
Everyone is bound to make a couple of mistakes in their life, and in some cases, those might be really big mistakes. However, as long as the mistake is acknowledged, amended and never repeated again, that serves as a good enough reason for someone to be forgiven, no matter the mistake.
