Hong Kong singer Andy Lau (刘德华) is known for his talent on-stage and his soft heart off it. In fact, fans were recently cooing over how much of a doting father Andy is to his only daughter Hanna. But, as it turns out, Andy Lau can be very unforgiving if he feels one has done wrong.
Andy once mentioned a former friend whom he burned bridges with. When asked why, it turns out that this male artist had betrayed their friend’s trust. Netizens also suspected this man of having bad intentions towards Andy’s wife Carol Chu (朱丽倩).
As everyone knows, the Hong Kong star has been in the business for a long time, over 40 years to be exact. While Andy’s career has been pretty smooth sailing, it seems his relationships haven’t been as great. During the variety show “Kangsi Coming (康熙来了)”, Andy was once asked what could someone do that would break his friendship with them.
The answer Andy gave was apparently one he’d experienced himself. Andy shared that he once had a group of friends who were all very close. One of their girlfriends got angry and another friend was then asked to coax her into a better mood. However, instead of fixing the situation, the friend supposedly had a one-night stand with the girl instead. Andy claimed that he had burned bridges with that friend as soon as he knew the truth.
Andy took care to not drop any names. But, he did admit that the ‘friend’ he was referring to had been a classmate of his in their 1981 trainee class. He also stated that he had not shared the stage with this former friend for over 10 years. Needless to say, that was enough for netizens to suspect actor Danny Poon (潘宏彬) of being the one.
Netizens claimed Danny’s situation was the perfect fit. Allegedly, he was once so close to Andy that many claimed the two were secretly dating. But, at some point, he stopped appearing on stage with Andy. Netizens also claimed Danny had once been close to Carol, which led them to suspect Andy of worrying for his wife.
Well, that’s certainly one surefire way to lose Andy’s friendship, we suppose. Still, we can certainly respect the man for recognising when someone is in the wrong, and not ignoring such wrongdoing.
