Owning a car is obviously not cheap but some have been lucky enough to be gifted a car by their parents or even an influencer. Most can only settle for something simple like a Kancil or a Myvi as they’re usually within the affordable price range.
While these Perodua models are considered somewhat affordable in Malaysia, a Singaporean man recently revealed just how much a Myvi vehicle actually cost in his country.
Earlier today (Thursday, 6th April), a Singaporean DJ known as DJ KC posted on his Facebook to share a shocking revelation regarding how much the people of Singapore have to pay for a car. In his post, he revealed that the Perodua Myvi car is considered a luxury car in Singapore with a total price of $136,501 SGD (RM409,501) including the COE (Certificate of Entitlement) for 10 years!
“This is the price in Singapore! And you can use it for 10 years. After that, you can either dispose of it or pay for the CAT(Category) A COE for another 10 years,” he wrote in his post. The podcaster, known for his horror content, then concluded that the people who drive a Myvi in Singapore are those who belong to the T20 income classes. “This is just for the price of a car. Wait till you wait about the houses here. It’s insane!” the content creator said.
The post managed to attract the attention of many Malaysian netizens who were surprised to learn how much a Perodua Myvi costs in the neighbouring country. Some commented that this explains why their Singaporean acquaintances opt for public transportation rather than owning a car to commute.
According to the official Perodua website, the price for a Myvi in Malaysia can range from RM46k to RM61k. It is worth noting that DJ KC’s calculation in his post may not be 100% accurate and that the price only applies to brand-new cars, not secondhand ones. So if you wish to buy a car in Singapore, perhaps reconsider or look into the price of secondhand ones.
