While some animals can be feral, that’s still no excuse to harm them in any way. There have many reports of animal abuse and it seems like each one gets worse. Previously, netizens and celebrities voiced their anger when a man was caught throwing a stone at a cat.
Recently, another animal abuse case was reported. A local man was caught on CCTV beating up a dog and setting it on fire. Here’s the disturbing story:
On Tuesday (28th March), Facebook user Leow Yee Chin and veterinarian Dr. Salehatul Khuzaimah posted photos and videos of an incident that occurred right next to a pet clinic in Johor Bahru. According to the former’s post, he suspected something had happened to the community dogs as he found the space they usually sleep in to be a mess and that’s when he and several others found an injured dog near the staircase.
They immediately brought the dog to the pet clinic and that’s when the staff decided to check the security cameras to see who could have abused the poor animal. The two individuals posted the recent CCTV footage on their respective socials showing a man beating the dog with an iron rod unprovoked before setting it on fire with a lighter and aerosol. The footage showed that the dog did not fight back nor act aggressively toward the man for him to commit the heinous act.
Thankfully, the dog in the video survived the attack and was immediately treated after it was found. Only after reviewing the CCTV footage that they discovered that the man had been abusing the dogs in the area for quite some time prior to the recent incident.
According to Dr. Salehatul, a police report has been filed, and the suspect has also been identified. “We hope action will be taken against the abuser soon. Our society is sick! Thank God the dog is now safe and is under our care here,” she wrote. At the time of writing, there has been no update from the authorities if whether or not the suspect has been arrested.

UPDATE (Thursday, 30th March)
According to My Forever Doggo, an animal advocacy page, the young man’s grandparents came forward to ask for the public’s forgiveness for their grandson’s action. It was said the 19-year-old’s mother even requested for the police report to be retracted.
“She (the mother) allegedly said that hurting the dogs was a trivial matter, saying that the dog will bite others if left outside,” said My Forever Doggo. The local veterinarian testified that the dogs in that area have been friendly towards her customers and have shown no signs of aggression whatsoever.
