For those who commute to work using the LRT services daily, you’ve probably accustomed to the announcements and reminders being played through the speakers. One of those reminders would be, along the lines of, “Should you need assistance, please contact the nearest service officer”.
This is a simple yet very important notice that some people choose to ignore as there’ve been cases where one would endanger themselves. Take this man here who carelessly risked his life to retrieve a pair of earphones that fell onto the train tracks. Here’s what happened:
Earlier this week, a local man was reported to have ignored the LRT station’s safety regulations as he went down to the train tracks to retrieve a pair of earphones. According to SinarHarian, the incident took place at the Taman Paramount LRT station at 8:09am.
His careless action not only endangered his own safety but also caused the train to delay by 3 minutes after a system alarm went off. It was reported that the Petaling Jaya district police received a report at around 9:28am regarding the arrest of the man by the Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) auxiliary police officers.
“The 23-year-old man was detained for trespassing the railway tracks and was charged at the Petaling Jaya Court under Section 62 of the Railways Act 1991,” said Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid in an official statement on Facebook.
Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin has sternly advised and reminded the public to prioritise their own safety and avoid breaking the law to retrieve minor possessions. In the event that any of your possessions fall onto the train tracks, please inform the officers in charge to help you retrieve the item(s).
An alternative solution would be to just purchase the same item another time. No life is worth risking for something so little.
