In case you didn’t know, Gaddafi Ismail Sabri, famously known as Dafi, is the son of former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri. Due to his relation to the politician, the singer has been seen in a negative light by some as they would assume he took advantage of his father’s status to get what he wanted but that may not actually be true.
He recently spoke about how things have changed in his life after his father stepped down from the position of Malaysia’s Prime Minister. In an interview with mStar, the singer talked about how his friends and acquaintances have distanced themselves; plus how he’s coping.
“I expected this to happen. When my father was no longer the Prime Minister, everyone disappeared,” he said. According to the “Akademi Fantasia” participant, he was aware that many people previously approached him due to his father being the Prime Minister at the time. As such, he felt pressured to constantly respond to messages to avoid being seen as arrogant.
The 34-year-old also recalled the time when some people, who he had not been in contact with in years, suddenly reappeared in his life after his father was announced as the Prime Minister. While it was good to reconnect with old friends, the “Bila Terasa Rindu” artist was also disappointed that some of these associates shamelessly asked him for help with their business proposals.
Thankfully for the “Ada Hantu” star, he still has friends in his life who have always been there for him. Apart from losing connections with many acquaintances, the Malaysian celeb has also lost job offers due to his father no longer being the Prime Minister. “Job offers still exist, but some were agreed upon and cancelled suddenly. They told me it was not happening, even though they were eager to offer it previously,” he told mStar.
Dafi shared that he’d rather not overthink the situation or dwell on the past. He also took the time to clarify that neither he nor his siblings have ever taken advantage of their father’s political position to get what they want. “We siblings don’t receive any special treatment,” he added.
The singer also denied that he was ever reliant on his parents for anything saying, “My father did not give me money, and I am not the type to ask for it. It’s embarrassing when I am already a grown.” Nevertheless, we wish all the best to Dafi in his future endeavours.
