Local influencer and content creator Cathryn Li (李元玲) is known for many things. Her beauty, her dedication to staying fit and her amazing piano skills. However, there is one other thing several netizens know her for. And that is her big blow up during a livestream in 2021.
The 33-year-old has grown a lot since then. In fact, she is slated to hold a piano concert in Taiwan this April! But, the announcement has prompted some remarks from netizens. One in particular sarcastically asked if she was going to repeat her ‘performance’ during the livestream. Needless to say, Cathryn did not take that comment lying down.
Cathryn, like any good artist, has been promoting her concert on her socials. However, one such post received an unsolicited comment. “Will (you) lose (your) temper and leave mid-performance like last time?” the comment read, referring to the previous time Cathryn had performed live.
“Last time, I was tricked by the host (into) playing the keyboard,” Cathryn patiently explained. “They (had) invited me to do a personal interview. Suddenly, (without warning) I was asked to (play) pop songs on the keyboard as an accompaniment. I did not expect to be asked to play the piano at all.”
The influencer went on to claim that things would be different this time. “(This) is a classical repertoire that I have been preparing for several months. This is also my (specialty),” Cathryn stated. “If you’re sour for (jealousy’s) sake, I can’t stop you. I hope my performance this time can give you a hard slap in the face for your words.”
Netizens have since declared their support for Cathryn. As one netizen wittily stated: “One minute on stage, ten years of practice off-stage. (Being forced to improvise) by random people is very unkind. Professionals are absolutely committed to their (art).”
Another pointed out that people don’t understand the difference between classical and pop music. “(They) think playing the piano (for both) is the same,” they added. Several also praised her for being her while others cheered her on for the upcoming concert.
To give credit to Cathryn, she has already apologised for the outburst and has clearly moved on from the incident. On our end, we sincerely wish her well for her concert and hope to see her bring her skills to the stage!
