Newlyweds are often treated like celebs on their wedding day. The spotlight is on the bride and groom, and everyone wants to have a photo with them in their wedding attire. We heard of newlyweds encountering their favourite actor or singer during their wedding, but what about running into the Ruler of your country?
A Malaysian woman named Daksyayni and her husband, were greeted with an unexpected surprise when they came face to face with Yang Di-pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. At the time, the couple were heading to the grand ballroom in Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur for their wedding reception.
Speaking to mStar, the bride said she and her husband were informed by the photographer that the Agong was also in the hotel. Much to their surprise, His Royal Highness even expressed his wish to meet them! “Previously, I’ve only seen and heard about the ‘rakyat’-centric Agong through TV and also media. I didn’t expect to experience this myself,” Dakshayni said. “I was nervous. I had butterflies in my tummy. That was the first time that I met the Agong in person.”

The Ampang-born also shared that His Majesty saw a convoy of 60 Harley Davidson motorbikes that her father had prepared for the wedding. “The convoy was arranged by my dad and also my uncle,” Daksyayni revealed to the portal. She also added that her uncle, Datuk Anand, is the president of the bikers’ club Shadowfax MC.
Aside from the Agong, she and her husband also met His Majesty’s son and daughter. During the chat, Daksyayni revealed that their wedding had approximately 800 guests. Most of them were in shock after a portrait of the trio was displayed on the big screen, according to Daksyayni.
“They asked about our age, what we do and where we’re from. They also shook our hands and congratulated us on the wedding,” the Malaysian beauty recalled. She remembered the King and his children being very friendly and warm toward them during their unexpected encounter.
“No one expected us to meet the Agong, especially us. It was so meaningful and surreal to us and it only made our wedding day all the more special. We felt so lucky to be able to share the moment with His Majesty last week. This probably only happens once in a lifetime,” Dakysyani was quoted as saying.
