Korean-born YouTuber Maryam You Narae (유나래) delighted her fans on social media after she debuted a newly hijab-clad image last month. Since then, she has been treating fans with several photos of her covering her hair on her Instagram.
While Maryam’s new appearance received much praise from her fans and public, it appears that there are still some who were less keen with her sporting the modest look. Through a post uploaded on her Instagram recently, the DurianKimchi influencer revealed that she had to turn down a photoshoot offer with a well-known brand. Apparently, she was told to remove her hijab.
“I rejected (the offer), because they told me, ‘If your fans ask, just tell them that the photoshoot was done before you wore the hijab.’ Good God Almighty, I’m not willing to do that so I turned it down straight away,” Maryam revealed in her post. “I can’t believe this brand for asking me to do that. Although they are a well-known brand in Malaysia, their mindset is like 💩.”
The popular content creator went on to put the brand in question on blast. She wrote, “Where is your respect? Do you think money can buy everything? You told me to remove my hijab because your brand is big? If you want to offer me $100k, or even $1 million, there is no reason for me to take it off. This kind of situation still happens in 2023? Until now I can’t believe this happened to me. But thankfully, God strengthened my heart.”
For those in the dark, Maryam converted to Islam back on 11th July 2019, prior to tying the knot with her husband, Kelantan-born Ryzal Ibrahim, on 15th August.
