Before the arrival of the social media platform TikTok, the biggest video-sharing website was YouTube. For those who are serious, it is possible to make a career out of being a YouTuber. There are many content creators who have became successful after years of producing content on their channels.

With that being said, have you ever wondered how much money Malaysian YouTubers are earning? We’ve heard that some can earn up to hundreds or even thousands of ringgit but how much of this information is true? This local YouTuber shared some insight on the income chart and what it’s actually like to work as a YouTuber.

Recently, online job-searching portal Maukerja posted an infographic on high-paying “easy jobs”. Many were surprised to discover that the top high-paying job was being a YouTuber where the monthly income can go up to RM360K, according to the post. The post managed to catch the attention of popular Malaysian YouTuber Che Nom, who is known for her cooking content.

The celebrity chef shared her thoughts on the infographic and how exactly accurate it is. Taking to her Facebook, the content creator revealed that the high RM360K income is only possible if the YouTube channel is being managed by a company and even then only 0.01% of YouTubers or channels will make that much money. Che Nom added that the channel must post as frequently as possible in order to attract consistent views.

The local YouTuber also made another shocking revelation saying that the average YouTuber’s income is actually below the poverty level, especially when there’s a recession. The internet celeb even shared that doing YouTube takes a lot of effort as she produces her videos and manages her channel by herself. “You’d have little work-life balance ’cause you’re constantly working, even on weekends. Otherwise, there’d be no content to post”, she wrote.

If you’re wondering how much Che Nom makes for her content, the YouTuber said that she only makes RM2.5k which is barely enough to cover her investment costs. Guess it goes to show that while success is possible, one must still have passion, perseverance, and a lot of patience to make for the long haul on YouTube.
