Sometimes, we tend to post whatever we want on social media without considering the consequences. Most of the time, it’s fine! But some poorly thought-out statements might not fly with the internet audience. It certainly caused fans of Jerry Yan (言承旭) some grief!
The Taiwanese actor recently excited his fans when he mentioned “his child” on his socials. As Jerry had never alluded to having a child before, let alone a wife, and fans understandably wanted to know more. But, as it turns out, Jerry may have unintentionally baited his audience, leaving many furious with the former “Meteor Garden” actor.
Yesterday afternoon (8th February), Jerry uploaded a simple post on his Weibo that got immediate attention. “My child has come!” he announced. Needless to say, the innocuous statement stirred fans up into a frenzy. Many asked about his supposed “child” while others wondered who the mom was. A few even went as far as to congratulate him.
Their excitement is understandable. After all, this was the first time in two months Jerry had posted about something that wasn’t work. Also, there were reports claiming the 45-year-old actor had once stated he hoped to “have a child early”. However, netizens were sorely disappointed when they discovered the statement was actually referencing Jerry’s latest work, the drama “夏花 (Summer Flower)”.

Many weren’t happy at being tricked by the actor and said as such on his socials. “Don’t make trouble!” one fan reprimanded. “You’re going to freak everyone out.” However, some defended Jerry, speculating that the post was actually from Jerry’s staff member, and not Jerry himself.
But Jerry later uploaded another post to explain his actions. “The staff said it’s inappropriate to post like this, and asked me to (include) the MV (music video) link,” he stated. “Sorry.” His latest post had the same sentence, but with the link this time.
Well, Jerry was certainly quick to earn himself back into his fans’ good graces! Many praised his sincerity, thanking him for being honest with them. But a few did teasingly urge him to get married and have a child soon, to make his words come true.
