Who doesn’t want to be Miss Hong Kong? Every single year, ladies will do their best to compete for the title. After all, winning it is more than just being Miss Hong Kong. It opens up a lot of opportunities in the entertainment industry, while getting your name out there.
But, it seems 2022’s runner-up Cecca Xu (許子萱) has had enough of the popularity. In a sudden turn of events, the 25-year-old has supposedly asked TVB to terminate her contract which she won from Miss Hong Kong!
Things initially seemed great for Cecca after she placed second in the pageant. However, it hasn’t been easy for her. Cecca has been facing plenty of scrutiny, which started the second the results were announced. Apparently, fans felt her expression had shown her unhappiness when fellow competitor Denise Lam (林卓錡) won.
To make matters worse, netizens have also been going after Cecca, for her supposed “poor character”. As it turned out, the Miss Hong Kong runner-up has been missing several events which she was obligated to attend. This has caused several to claim she was not fulfilling her responsibilities as part of Miss Hong Kong. They even went as far as to comment about it on her socials.
Well, all that has apparently accumulated into Cecca requesting TVB terminate her Miss Hong Kong contract early! Hong Kong media claims Cecca made the request as she is unable to bear the pressure of the entertainment industry. The contract supposedly ties Cecca to TVB for a year.
TVB has allegedly refused her terms as they were concerned they would have another Edelweiss Cheung (張舒雅) situation on their hands. The former 2008 Miss Hong Kong winner had made headlines then when she was fired for failing to uphold her duties. TVB was later forced to crown another Miss Hong Kong to replace her.
Currently, they are negotiating for Cecca to only attend the crowning of the new Miss Hong Kong this year. She has supposedly been given permission to skip out on other events, unless it’s lucrative job. Additionally, another source claims TVB is intent on respecting her decision as Cecca has plans to work in China.
But, Cecca has remained firm about her decision. Hong Kong media stated Cecca hopes to regain her free agency as soon as possible. Well, we hope Cecca and TVB will be able to work things out without too much fuss!
