We’ve all heard horror stories about ID photographs gone wrong, and we even have the photos to prove it. Lousy lighting, grumpy photographers, and the recent ban on smiling in some jurisdictions, all combine to make for the ideal storm of bad photos. Even if you do manage to get a decent one, it must either be luck or that you are blessed with good eyesight.

But now, you don’t need to leave it to luck anymore, because there are simple beauty tips you can use to ensure that your makeup isn’t completely ruining you, even though you can’t always guarantee a fantastic shot. Introducing: Driver’s License Photo Makeup.

Simply put, driver’s license photo makeup is something that will make you look attractive in any setting. Lighting is very harsh or dark when getting a photo taken for a driver’s license or passport. No worries – this makeup trend works to balance out unattractive features. In case you’re wondering how to do it, we’ve got all the steps you need to nail this look (even for the guys!):

Prep The Skin

Whether you’re a woman or man, having a skincare routine is essential. At least have a basic kit comprising face cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen. Start by washing your face with your preferred cleanser and then apply your toner, moisturizer and SPF. Keep in mind that the skin care products need to sit on your face for at least five minutes before applying any makeup, so they can completely absorb and won’t mix around with your foundation or any makeup products. You can use a primer or corrector to cover up any lumps, uneven skin tone, pores, or other imperfections before applying your base.

Apply Your Base

For the guys, you can skip this part – but if you really want to look flawless for a picture, it’s no harm applying some foundation. Plus, no one’s gonna know. Applying foundation and spot concealer is necessary to hide any skin imperfection or problem spot. The ideal option is to use a full-coverage foundation that will give you an airbrushed, velvety finish. Use the proper sponge to blend it out so that it lasts longer and appears even all over the face. For a more natural appearance on males, dab a tiny bit of foundation here and there.

Layering Your Concealer

Let’s face it. We all have panda eyes, but we don’t want that to be the highlight of our license pictures. Here’s where concealer comes in handy. Apply concealer underneath the eyes, but blend it upwards to give the appearance of lifting, then use the same concealer along the brow bone. This will give you the desired lifted look.

Contour And Define

This is essential, because it will further define your look. The best product to use for this is a matte bronzer, which can be applied on the forehead, cheek hollows, jawline, tip of the nose, and even the outer corners of the eye crease. This will make the skin appear warmer and assist in contouring the complexion.

Skip The Shimmers

It can be tempting, sometimes, to go overboard with your makeup – but remember that you’ll want to look like YOU and it’s always best to be authentic and simple for a driver’s license picture. If you’re thinking of adding shimmer and shine to your look, don’t bother, as the white background and lighting may have weird effects on shimmer, making you look wet or, if it’s too chunky, like you have glitter flecks on your face.

Finishing Touch

You don’t have to get all colourful for a driver’s license picture. The best way to nail this look is to keep it as simple as possible. Now that you’ve concealed and corrected, add some neutral hues like nude, brown or pink to get a simple and clean look. A creamy, moisturizing blush is ideal, since you want your cheeks to stand out and catch the light. To produce a more lifted appearance, place the blush higher than normal and closer to the outer cheek area. After that, be sure to use pressed powder to finish the appearance. You can add some beneath your eyes to seal it in. If you have bushy brows, make sure to tame them using a spoolie. You can use brow gel or Vaseline for a clean brow look.

Next, apply your preferred mascara to lift up the lashes, and then use a winged eyeliner to draw a line from the inner corners of the eyes up to the outer corners. Since this look is all about simplicity, you can complete the look by lightly overlining your lips with lip liner, and applying a nude lipstick or gloss to give your lips shine and dimension. For the guys, you can add some blush if you have pale skin. You can also use gloss or Vaseline on your lips. We definitely recommend Vaseline, especially if you have chapped lips.

And there you have it – the perfect makeup to nail a driver’s license picture. This lewk also works for taking photos for passports, school IDs and daily looks, too!
