Applying for jobs is hard, especially when you have to factor in the salary (or payment). It’s important to be compensated for your time and energy spent at work. Unfortunately, there are companies out there that demand expensive quality at a cheap price. Those two things rarely go well together.
You’d think being a model means being paid well as you get to pose in luxurious brands, but that’s not always the case. We’ve seen the efforts of actress and model Alicia Amin who protested against KL Fashion Week founder Andrew Tan for long overdue payment. Her actions were not in vain as netizens have been criticising the company for their questionable ethics toward models.
Professional photographer Tengku Azri posted on his Facebook earlier this week to call out a certain fashion brand that is currently looking for fresh modelling talents. In the screenshot he provided, it was written that the company AI Sara can only afford to pay the models RM7 per hour for a whole-day photoshoot. “Only RM7 per hour? How stingy are you? You invested thousands or millions in your brand but refuse to invest in the models?” the photographer wrote.
The member of DLoven Productions said that models should be paid more as their line of work is not easy. He revealed that even the most professional models get tired after 5 to 6 hours of posing. “Models are humans too, they’re not robots! Where’s your humanity? Pay them according to their experiences, even McD’s part-time workers are being paid more than RM7 an hour,” he argued.

The content creator ended his post by reminding photographers and videographers to pay models what they deserve, especially when they have to shhot at outdoor events. Many responded to the post saying that they agree with his statement about the payment for models being too low.
At the time of writing, Al Sara has not responded to the backlash about the unfair payment for the talents. Even if it was meant to be a simple photoshoot, the models recruited should definitely be paid a fair sum based on their experience and skills.
