Over the past few months, there’s been a lot of talks about foreigners in Malaysia. We’ve had some inconsiderate foreigners who behaved poorly and who can forget about the infamous Russian daredevils who climbed to the top of the Merdeka 118 tower?
However, not every tourist’s stories are bad as some have been quite nice, like the American couple who gave positive reviews on Malaysia’s McDonald’s. Now another foreigner is going viral for comparing our capital city to New York in the US.

User @random.4.you is a travelling content creator who posts videos of his travels on TikTok. It seems that the TikToker created his account after his visit to Malaysia last year as most, if not all, of his content is about his time spent here in the country. One of his most recent posts is getting all the attention after he compared the city of KL to New York City.
In the viral video showing the scenery around KL, which gained over 101.8k views at the time of writing, the traveller said that he was reluctant to come to Malaysia at first cause of the long flight duration. “At first I didn’t want to fly for over 30 hours from America to come and visit. But I’m glad I did!” he said. The foreigner added that it was the best decision he ever made.
He further elaborated that Malaysian citizens are one of the friendliest people in the world and that in his opinion, KL is much more modern and safer than New York City. “I urge all people who call Malaysia a third-world country to come visit, especially my fellow Americans,” he said as he continued to show around the attractions in KL as well as Resorts World Genting.
As seen in the screenshots above, Malaysian netizens took to the comments to thank the TikToker for his kind words and even recommended places in Malaysia for him to visit in the future. After the first video went viral, the American citizen posted a follow-up video to thank everyone for their support and how much he appreciates our beloved country.
While the response to the video has been positive, there are those who believe that tourists may be taking advantage of us. What do you think?
@random.4.you #Malaysia Thank you so much for the positive comments and showing me so much love on my last video. #Malaysians are the kindest people and most hospitable.
