“Ever since I was little, I dreamed of this perfect toy that would protect a kid from ever feeling lonely or sad. This is Megan.”
From the same minds that brought you “The Conjuring”, “Insidious, “Annabelle”, and “Fantasy Island” – introducing the next new horror film, “M3GAN”! This (creepy) cyborg friend will definitely protect (or kill for) you all the way.
In this horror movie, a recently orphaned girl named Cady is forced to live with her workaholic aunt Gemma. Unable to properly care for her niece, she creates an AI robot friend to do exactly what she lacks – emotional bonding. But when the robot Megan becomes a little too overprotective, things get a little too nasty.
Don’t be mistaken, Megan is already self-aware right from the beginning of the movie. This isn’t like your ordinary robots-becoming-self-aware kind of movie. Megan has a strict code of protecting Cady from harm – both emotionally and physically. But in time, Megan becomes a little too obsessed and deems everything to be harmful to Cady.
This caused Megan to go on a killing spree, slaying absolutely everyone in her path to Cady. That also includes Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng who plays the money-pinching boss David. Seeing his character was a funny surprise to Malaysian fans! His character is a great addition to the cast, often inserting comedic moments into the already eerie mood.
The rest of the cast also did such a wonderful job especially 11-year-old Violet McGraw who played Cady. She managed to shift the audience’s emotions from us being initially sad for her to increasingly annoyed with her. Her character becomes way too attached to Megan, and she starts being a brat; at one point even slapped her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams).
The movie, we assumed, is supposed to be eerie with elements of gore. But when Megan starts singing at random heartfelt moments, the whole audience just started laughing altogether. If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ll know she even dances at certain points in the movie – although freaky – is a funny sight to see. So if you are not a fan of horror, don’t fret, because it’s a fun movie to watch!
Producers James Wan and Jason Blum explain how we as people depend on technology so much given that it’s always available to us and also all around us. So much as sometimes we see it as a replacement for human beings themselves. That is how Megan comes into the picture.
Halfway into the movie, it reminds us of “Annabelle”, “Chucky”, “Ex Machina” and at times, even “The Terminator”. A mix of all four is what you can get from this movie “M3GAN”. A cyborg killing machine wrapped in a pretty plastic figure of a kid doll.
If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ll know exactly what it’s about. If you haven’t seen the trailer, don’t, because it pretty much sums up the whole movie. But if you’re curious, check out the trailer right here;
