While most of us love travelling, there’s no denying that it has its challenges. Unfortunately, those challenges seem to double up when you’re caring for a baby!

This Singaporean mother recently travelled to Japan. However, as she is a nursing mom, she needed to maintain her breastfeeding cycle, or risk her own health. Unfortunately, as she could not freeze her expressed breast milk (EBM), she had to resort to drinking more than 4 litres of it to avoid waste!

According to TikTok user jemielimtiktok, she had recently gone to Hokkaido, Japan with her husband and 3-month-old baby. The 29-year-old had initially planned to freeze her EBM in the hotel’s refrigerator. Unfortunately, she discovered that her EBM had not been completely frozen. As this could be bad for her baby, she decided to not waste her milk and drank it instead.

“I drank 4450ML of my own breastmilk in Hokkaido,” the TikTok user shared. She also included clips of her drinking her EBM on the plane, in her hotel room and in public. Jemie notably took gulps of water after the milk. She later explained it was because she doesn’t usually drink milk. Curiously enough, Jemie shared that fresh EBM has no taste, just subtle sweetness. But, frozen breast milk has a fishy smell which makes her nauseous.

Unfortunately, Jemie’s documented experience hit some buttons with others. A few questioned why she had done so. Others had expressed disgust over her actions. One even asked why she hadn’t just thrown her EBM away. But Jemie received support from others who understood and sympathised with her plight. One netizen affirmed her actions, saying: “It’s perfectly fine and ok. Stay firm and don’t bother (with) the negative comments from people who don’t understand.”

Well, there’s no denying that being a travelling nursing mother can be hard. However, props to Jemie for pulling through! We sincerely hope her next trip will be easier for her.
