Living close to the sea or any large body of water can bring danger if you’re not careful or well-prepared. Even if you’re familiar with these waters, no one can precisely predict a man-eating salt-water crocodile swimming nearby looking for food.
Just recently, a video went viral on Facebook of a Sabahan man howling and crying following a crocodile attack. Covered in blood, the father was too overwhelmed with shock and sadness to do anything else other than cry. Howling by the side of the sea, this father was seen mourning the loss of his young son.
The incident happened in Lahad Datu, Sabah, where apparently the father took his two sons’ boat rowing at sea and was suddenly attacked by a crocodile. The father’s body was badly injured, with his head and the side of his body badly cut to the point where his flesh was visible. Apparently, the father tried to wrestle with the reptile in a last-ditch effort to save his son.
According to a statement from the Lahad Datu Fire & Rescue Station, one victim was successfully rescued by the public while the other has yet to be found. The victim who was rescued was sent to the hospital for further treatment. At the time of writing, nothing else was updated on the condition of the other victim.
The viral video in question made netizens furious with the recorder asking insensitive questions. While the father was crying and howling, the recorder asked; “Who told you to run, now he’s eaten by the crocodile.” When the father explained his side of the story, the recorder accused him of lying.
This statement brought forth numerous enraged comments from netizens saying that the recorder was highly insensitive to the situation. Many comments offer condolences and prayers to the family. Some comments slammed the recorder for being insensitive .
Our condolences to the father and his whole family. May the family stay strong during this difficult time.
