Galas aren’t common but when they are held, they are certainly a sight to behold! And it isn’t just thanks to the fancy decoration. The people dressed up play a huge part in making a gala dazzle and TVB’s stars have recently proven that!

TVB held their 55th Anniversary Gala on 19th November. Over 300 artistes attended, each with an impressive outfit. However, not everyone’s outfit was a crowd pleaser. Netizens had some opinions on certain artists’ clothes!

Guests and netizens were certainly delighted when Hong Kong singer Aaron Kwok (郭富城) gave an amazing performance at the gala that night. However, it can be argued that the artists themselves stole some of the spotlight with their various outfits.

For instance, Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤) wore a simple but revealing black dress that caught many eyes. Mandy Wong (黃智雯)’s white outfit showed off a deep V-line which she carried off with gravitas. Miss Hong Kong 2021  participants Sabrina Mendes (宋宛穎) and Carmaney Wong (黃嘉雯) still looked impressive despite wearing the same coloured dresses! But while many artistes were praised for their choice of clothes, others were heavily criticised.

Actress Nancy Wu (胡定欣) was given much flak for her evening-wear. Apparently, she had chosen a simple one-piece, full-length dress made of what looked like brown felt. Unfortunately, netizens weren’t impressed. Several commented that she looked like she was wearing “a brown sack” while others claimed Nancy was only wearing the bottom half of a bear costume.

33-year-old Jeannie Chan (陈滢) cut a dazzling figure initially with her glittery green backless dress. But, regretfully, that left her back and figure as the focus of netizens’ ire. Several pointed out that they could see rolls of fat on her body, with some even advising her to take better care of her figure. A few also likened the image to “a dumpling”.

As for Kamen Kong (江嘉敏), she looked fairly stunning in a silver dress that boasted a deep V-line that reached down to her waist! Her ballgown was certainly impressive. Still, netizens pointed out that a breast pad could be seen thanks to the V-cut. In their opinion, it apparently ruined the look.

Well, maybe some artistes experienced a faux pas during the gala. Nonetheless, each one still looked pretty impressive in their chosen outfits. After all, clothes do make the man (or woman, in this case)!
