While many couples dream of walking down the aisle under a beautiful blue sky, things don’t always go to plan. There’s always a risk when holding an outdoor wedding, as your fate lies in the hands of the weather gods. What happens if things are not in your favour? You can take this newly-married couple from Malaysia as an example.
Recently, a video posted by TikTok user @sheikhhafiq made its rounds online. In the video, the male TikToker appeared as one of the attendees of his friend’s garden-themed wedding which was held in the rain. At the time of writing (Tuesday, 15th November), the video capturing the incident has gained over a million views online!
@sheikhhafiq Pape pun selamat pengantin baru sahabatku 🫶🏼
The bride, Nor Syakirin Nor Affendee, appeared in an interview with mStar not long after her video went viral on social media. According to her, the outdoor wedding ceremony was held last week on Friday (11th November) at Colony Star Boulevard KLCC. “I’ve been dreaming for a garden-themed wedding, so that’s why I decided to choose this theme for my solemnisation ceremony. The location also has a clear view of the Twin Towers. I managed it myself, along with my wedding planner,” Syakirin said.
“The weather was fine in the morning, up until the noon. But the sky started getting cloudy in the afternoon. At that time, I was already starting to get worried. Initially, we planned to start the wedding at 3pm, as it was about to rain. Due to the heavy downpour, the event was eventually held at around 4:30pm,” she added during the chat.
Syakirin then revealed, “Actually, there was a backup plan. We actually planned on bringing the wedding forward to the morning. The other option was to hold an indoor wedding ceremony at the same venue instead. Eventually, we carried on with the outdoor wedding on the evening. At the beginning (of the ceremony), it was just drizzling.”

Afterwards, the rain began pouring heavily after the groom recited the akad nikah (wedding vows). She said, “The moment our marriage was declared solemn, the rain continued to pour heavily. It was chaotic. I could hear people screaming, as they got up from their seats and ran to find shelter. Some even ran into the building, others also rushed to the wedding dais where I was sitting with all the ‘dulang hantaran’ (trays of gifts), since the area was covered.”
Syakirin revealed that she was thankful that her family members and her friends for being understanding and sporting, despite the chaotic situation. “The wedding was only attended by around 80 people, including our family, in addition to several other close friends of ours. So, it was easy to control the crowd. My husband and I were initially nervous as we were about to tie the knot. But the rainy day made us feel calmer, and we wanted to just enjoy the moment,” the young bride told the portal.
“Even the ‘dulang’ boys and girls were being sporting throughout the occasion. They joined the wedding photography session with us in the rain. We had a Bollywood-themed wedding the night before. The next day, we got soaked in the pouring rain, just like in Bollywood films,” Syakirin concluded the chat.

It was definitely a wedding to remember. Would you take the risk – knowing we’re currently in the rainy season?
