If you’re a fairly avid movie-goer, you’ve likely heard of the films “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (卧虎藏龙)”, the 2003 Marvel movie “Hulk” and of course, “Life of Pi”. Well, if you’re a fan of these movies, you’ll also likely recognise the name Ang Lee (李安). After all, these are some of his acclaimed works as a director and producer.
Ang’s works may be highly praised, but, the Taiwanese filmmaker himself tends to keep fairly lowkey. As such, it was a delight to discover the lauded filmmaker had actually been in Bukit Indah, Johor recently. And according to the fan and netizen who revealed the news, Ang had been there for some bak kut teh!

Yesterday (13th November), a photo of Ang Lee with a man went viral after it was uploaded to the Facebook group “Bukit Indah大小事🏁🏆”. It was suspected that the local man beside Ang was the bak kut teh shop owner.
“International director Ang Lee (“unannouncedly”) patronised (my store),” the netizen revealed in his post. “Additionally, he personally affirmed that the food at E Pin Bak Kut Teh (一品滋补肉骨茶) suited his tastes. This made me happy for several days.”
The restaurant owner added that E Pin’s Bak Kut Teh was said to be the best in Johor. However, he was greatly encouraged by Ang Lee and his team’s patronage of his store. Especially since they cleared the whole table of his food! “So, why don’t you come and try it?” he added cheekily.

Well, the endorsement certainly worked! Fellow netizens have been asking for the store’s location, presumably for a visit. However, some suspect that Ang Lee is actually in Malaysia to scout for locations for his new film “树犹如此”.
The venerated filmmaker himself hasn’t said anything about his recent trip to Johor. But, we certainly hope he enjoyed his visit!
