After a painful few days of not being able to commute to and from work, the LRT Kelana Jaya line service is now fully operational. On the bright side, for those who could work from home, it did save us some time and money. However, the same cannot be said for those who are required to travel to work.
The causes of the malfunctions are still unclear but according to the Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, they’re not ruling out the possibility of sabotage. Whatever the case, the people have been asking for compensation for the disruptions and there is some good news about that.

Yesterday evening (Sunday, 13th November), RapidKL announced that its LRT service among the Kelana Jaya line will be operational once again. This was obviously good news for those who needed to commute but will the service be free after what happened? The answer: Yes. Rapid Rail shared the details relating to compensation for LRT users.
According to the statement on their website, My50 pass holders whose passes expire between 14th and 20th November, can still use their pass as usual without any charges but must ensure they at least have a minimum of RM5 balance in their cards. Touch N Go users can use their card as usual without any charge between 14th to 20th November as well.
Token users who neither have My50 pass nor Touch N Go cards just need to go to any Customer Service Office at LRT, MRT, Monorail, and BRT stations to obtain a special one-way travel token to enjoy the free rides. While the compensation may be swell and all, netizens are still not convinced that this may be the end of the LRT issues, given that we’ve been facing several others this year.

At the time of writing, the root of the problem for the malfunctions has still yet to be addressed. There is so far no statement nor announcement on a press conference in the near future. Let’s just hope the LRT service continues to work.
