Movies are fictional works that are meant to be enjoyed as entertainment. However, not everyone will see their value. What some people see as well-written, others will find something wrong with the movie. Of course when it comes to art, everyone’s opinion can be very subjective.

Take, for instance, our local movie “KL Gangster”. The movie did very well at the box office, reaching RM1.5 million on the first day of its debut and it received positive reviews from critics. Despite its success, this TikToker was brutally honest with the movie’s dialogue spoken by certain characters.

TikToker Low Sok Ying recently posted a video on her channel where she reviewed the hit 2011 movie, “KL Gangster”. Her review is also a response to a netizen’s question asking what Chinese people think of Malay gangsters using Chinese slang in movies like “KL Gangster”. The TikToker took 2 hours of her time to watch the movie and this is what she has to say.

“It was (so) hilarious that I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the whole movie! What are they saying?!” she exclaimed. She also wrote in her caption that the characters should’ve just spoken proper Malay instead. The content creator then started reciting some of the dialogue in the movie. She then asked her followers if Malay gangsters actually talk like this. The influencer stated that she did not understand half of the dialogue that was being said in the movie.

“The use of ‘Lu’ and ‘Gua’ [in the movie] are definitely in the Hokkien dialect cause it’s known to be on the harsh side but if you ask me, I think it’s rather rude,” she stated. The director of LSY Branding then elaborated that she’d rather stay away from people using this slang in public. Netizens commented on her post saying that they agree with her opinions.
