TVB actor Yu Chi-ming (余子明) has always been highly respected. Not only for his skills, but also for his work. Since his debut 40 years ago, Yu Chi-ming has been a legend to many, both his peers, juniors and of course, the audience who has seen him on-screen.
Unfortunately, this legend is no longer among us. Yesterday (10th November), it was reported that the veteran actor passed away at the age of 78. His son confirmed the news of his father’s passing with Hong Kong media saying, “Thank you for your concern!”

Earlier this year, Yu Chi-ming suffered from a stroke and had to be admitted to the hospital. It left him temporarily paralysed in his left side and he needed a wheelchair to get around. At that time, his family looked after him by providing his meals and taking him to the doctor when necessary.
The actor still lived a good life, and spent much of his time with his family. Many precious moments were documented by his son on Yu Chi-ming’s Instagram, with his son sharing funny anecdotes from the actor’s day. In fact, in October, the duo took a selfie, with Yu Chi-ming looking fairly healthy. Unfortunately, it did not last.

Shortly afterwards, Yu Chi-ming’s son informed fans that his father was in the hospital as they needed to do tests. His son explained that his father’s health had deteriorated. He added that there was too much phlegm, which worried the family as they felt it could be life threatening.
As such, Yu Chi-ming had been admitted to the hospital again. On 6th November, media reports circulated, claiming that Yu Chi-ming’s condition had deteriorated badly. And four days later, news of the actor’s passing hit hard.
Yu Chi-ming dedicated 40 years of his life to working his craft under TVB. He gained quite the reputation there with works such as “Journey To The West (西游记)”, “War and Beauty (金枝欲孽)”, “Gods of Honour (封神榜)” and many more. Chi-ming was also reportedly a news reporter when he was younger and often dabble in singing as well.

Our hearts go out to his family and friends. May they find peace in his passing. We also sincerely hope Mr. Yu Chi-ming rests in peace.
