Sometimes, we make mistakes unknowingly. Unfortunately, we still have to bear the consequences. It isn’t fair, but, it is life. And Hong Kong actor Joel Chan (陳山蔥) knows this better than anyone. After all, he recently got banned from live streaming on China’s social media platform Xiao Hong Shu (小红书) for not knowing the rules!
The move stunned everyone as to their knowledge, the TVB actor had only been promoting his latest drama “I’ve Got The Power (超能使者)”. However, the actual reason for the ban left many upset. As it turns out, he got banned for speaking in Cantonese!

Just last week, the actor had taken to Xiao Hong Shu to share about “I’ve Got The Power”. To the fans, it had been a fairly ordinary stream with no content that could potentially flag the stream. However, to their surprise, Joel posted a statement afterwards to apologise to them.
“Sorry everyone, as I spoke Cantonese throughout the entire live stream, I’ve been banned from live streaming for the next 12 hours,” he reportedly said. Joel then reassured his fans that it was fine, and asked them to continue supporting his drama. He also promised to do another live stream the following night, presumably after the 12-hour ban was done.
However, fans were not happy with how the star was allegedly treated. Several to quick to question the ban on the dialect as it was common to use it in China. However, others claimed that the ban was for the platform to “audit (live streams conducted in dialect)“.

Joel himself later spoke up about the issue, claiming responsibility for his mistake. “It’s a small thing,” he told his fans. “Every platform has (its) own rules, it’s just that I didn’t know (about it). But now, it has been clarified.”
Well, kudos to the actor for not taking the ban personally! It’s certainly something most of us would have gotten butthurt over. We sincerely hope his next live stream won’t have any other issues!
