The Mamee Monster Noodle Snack is one of the most iconic and loved snacks in Malaysia. The beloved snack is still popular among children to this day and you can see them in goodie bags at birthday parties or various convenient stores.
Many of us grew up with Mamee Monster but sadly, we have to say goodbye to its founder. It’s been reported that the man behind the Mamee Monster snacks passed away in Melaka on Saturday (5th November). He was 96 years old. Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane:
Datuk Pang Chin Hin, who also has served as Mamee-Double Decker (M) Sdn Bhd’s executive chairman, founded the company 51 years ago in 1971 at Ayer Keroh, Melaka. Since then, the Mamee brand grew and produced more than 50 brands of snacks including Mamee Monster Noodle Snack, Mister Potato chips, Double Decker shrimp crackers, and Mamee Chef instant noodles.
The Mamee brand has won multiple awards over the years including the Frost & Sullivan Award for Best Home-Grown Packages Food Company, and because they are among the top 10 instant noodles in the globe, the brand also received the Putra Brand Award in the food category.
After his passing, Datuk Pang Chin Hin left a legacy and an empire to his family. His grandson, Pierre Pang is the company’s current group CEO. After all these years, the Mamee brand and all its products still remain a hit among Malaysians and Singaporeans.
We express our deepest condolences to the Pang family as well as to the Mamee-Double Decker company. Rest in peace Datuk Pang Chin Hin and thank you for giving us all these delicious snacks.
