When it comes to actors showing some skin on TV or in movies, they will either receive praise or backlash. But, most of the time, it’s usually the latter, especially if it’s in Malaysia. Being in a conservative country, public figures and production companies have to be careful about what they put out to avoid either being criticised or even arrested.
For male actors, a scene on TV or movie where they appear shirtless is often acceptable (more or less) depending on how it plays out. However, there will be those who sexualise the whole thing and make a big deal out of it. After some concern over him appearing shirtless in a scene, Hariz Hamdan gave his thoughts on why he’s okay with stripping.
Malaysian actor Haris Hamdan shared that he doesn’t necessarily mind taking off his shirt for a scene in a TV series or movie as he believes it’s just part of the job as a performer. In an interview with Gempak, the 20-year-old said, “Whatever the director asks me to do, I will do it. If they asked me to take off my clothes, I’ll do it but not too much”.
The “Cinta Hilang Kata” star also revealed that even though he’s willing to show off some skin, he’s still well aware of his rights as an actor. The celeb reassured fans that he still knows his limits saying that he’d always discuss shooting scenes with the director when it requires him to strip, to make sure that it wasn’t gratuitous. “Though it’s work, I won’t just simply do something because it’s part of the job. I still have my dignity,” he told Gempak.
The actor recently appeared shirtless in a scene for the “Biarkan Ia Pergi” drama series where his character Badry was confronted and punched by the male lead Zaquan played by Ammar Baharin as seen in the video below.
