The idol industry offers plenty of glamour, fame and supposedly fortune. However, plenty of dark stories surrounding the once-idolised industry have been popping up lately. Recently, an ex-member of a Japanese underground idol group shared some of her struggles during her tenure.
Kurumi Sora (胡桃そら) was formerly part of underground idol group Kamen Joshi (仮面女子) aka Mask Girls. While it was an achievement many craved, Sora claimed it was stressful. As such, she used to blow off steam by having sex with men. During her three-year tenure as an idol, she reportedly had sex with at least twenty guys!
The 25-year-old recently shared her story on a late-night show. Sora stated that she had been a trainee for Mask Girls. She eventually worked her way up to being a member of Armour Girls, one of the main groups. It was hard work to get there, but being in the main group wasn’t easy either. Sora shared that they held over 1000 performances each year in Akihabra.
Their tight schedule left them no time to destress. In fact, Sora added that she only got one to two days off each month. As such, she resorted to unconventional means to cope with the stress. Within her three and a half years of being an underground idol, Sora had sexual relationships with at least twenty men. She had not been overly picky about who she had sex with. “You only live once so I wanted to f*ck many types of boys,” she said.
Sora claimed she slept with YouTubers, hosts, publicists, ex-boyfriends, stage actors and even foreigners. She added that the frequencies of meeting each person was never the same. “Some people meet about once every two years, or once every six months, or once a month or once a week. It depends entire on my mood and feelings at the time,” she said.
Sora also had a habit of ‘hunting’ men in Shibuya when she got bored. However, she did admit that she would only approach them if they were “not fat people“. Her favourite thing to do however was have sex with someone right before a performance. “During the live (performance), I’ll have a flashback,” she explained. “I would be like, “Hang on, half an hour ago I was having sex and now I’m performing a gig!” It was interesting and fun.”
But, the former idol stressed that she was never in love with any of the men. If they got overly aggressive with her, Sora would cut contact with them. However, the 25-year-old claims that those days are long over. Sora notably left Mask Girls in 2020. “At the moment, I’m not really interested in (this) kind of thing anymore,” she mentioned.
Well, we can definitely admit it’s not a life for everyone! Sora is currently working on her YouTube channel and interacting with fans via her socials. She may have left the idol life behind, but clearly, it was an experience for her!
