As a content creator, you’re often subjected to people’s opinions. While some of them mean well, the things that they say may come off as offensive or insensitive. Celebrities and influencers aren’t strangers to these sort of things but we imagine it can be tiring to entertain people who like to chime in on Every Single Issue.
While food blogger CeddyOrNot or Ceddy Ang is not afraid to call people out when absolutely necessary, he’s definitely not one to start fights or make situations more intense. Instead, most of the time he would casually respond to insensitive comments with a little bit of humour.
Yesterday (Tuesday, 18th October), a netizen DM-ed Ceddy on Twitter asking how he would usually deal with strangers asking him to convert to Islam. The anonymous user shared that they felt offended when an e-hailing driver suggested that they convert to another religion and things got awkward. “I’m wondering how would you act if you were in this situation?” asked the user.
The food reviewer responded to the netizen with his candid answer. According to the content creator, there has been quite a number of people asking him to become a Muslim. “Maybe they mean well, maybe they just wanna be nosey but I always tell them that I still wanna enjoy my [pork] for now so I will still be haram,” he joked. However, the TikToker then shared that he’s actually open to the possibility of converting if it ever happens in the future.
“We never know what the future holds so just pray good things for me. And [people] usually just “let me off” or laugh at the [pork] part,” he added. In a reply to a tweet by another user, Ceddy mentioned that he is not offended as the conversation of converting is usually casual but also said that he refuses to argue with anyone over the subject.
Netizens replied to the influencer’s post with many finding his response humorous and sensible. Others replied by sharing their opinions and own personal experiences as seen above. Even if it’s in a casual or joking way, let’s all take this as a reminder to be respectful of people’s stance.
