Some view fashion as fickle and whimsical art. However, like any art, fashion has the power to allow people to express themselves. Swedish brand Monki has a very good understanding of this. While offering an appealing blend of Asian-street style with a cool Scandinavian aesthetic for all your wardrobe needs, the purpose-driven brand above all, aims to empower women through fashion.
If you’re a big fan of this brand, well, have we got news for you! Monki will be opening a brand-new concept store in Pavilion KL on 3rd December! This will be its seventh store in Malaysia. In conjunction with the store’s opening, Monki is also launching an art-focused campaign, “Seven Sisters Salute Sisterhood”, involving talented, local female artists.
Monki has always aimed to empower young women across the globe to salute sisterhood while encouraging sisterhood values. Not only that, but they have also dedicated themselves to spotlighting passionate and talented local creatives. So, to honour both goals, they’ve launched the campaign “Seven Sisters Salute Sisterhood”.
The campaign is a celebration of creativity, community, and feminine power. It showcases the work of seven local artists to demonstrate what Monki’s tagline, “Salute Sisterhood” means to them. They’ve certainly picked a line-up of artists, such as Dianne Tahir, Florence Khoo, Nurul Atika, Sarah Reza, Shari Jaffri, Sharina Shahrin, and Shobhana Nair.
These women from all walks of life will be creating pieces embodying female power and community. From visual artist Sharina Shahrin to self-taught illustrator Shari Jaffri, each sister shares a different idea of “Salute Sisterhood”.
“To me, (“Salute Sisterhood”) means celebrating our past, present, and future sisters. Acknowledging the ones who fought before us, those who are standing beside us, and those who will carry on the fight for gender equality!” said Sharina, who was recently named one of Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30, states.
The specially commissioned artworks will be printed as posters and gifted to shoppers on their opening day. Additionally, visitors will also be able to admire an eye-catching and colourful in-store installation created by multi-disciplinary artist, Nawwar Shukriah Ali.
Customers will also be delighted to know that the new Pavilion store has been designed and constructed with recycled materials for sustainability. Pavilion KL will be the first mall in all of Asia to launch Monki’s new store concept. So, you definitely don’t wanna miss it. See you there!
