The fashion industry is always known to be ever-changing, always creating new and exciting trends for the community and its people. And throughout the years, technology has helped so much in the rise of the fashion industry that in this day and age, the apparel business is now much more sustainable rather than an energy-exhausting market.
Taking into account sustainability, a brand-new fashion competition was created. The Hung Innovation Awards is a fashion competition that features a group of young Malaysian designers showcasing their best work towards developing a more sustainable industry.
The competition is created by none other than Gillian Hung – a renowned Malaysian designer. The Hung Innovation Awards was conceived to foster collaboration between the three industries of fashion, hair, and beauty. Through this, it is hoped to encourage these three industries to work together in creating something bigger and better for the fashion industry as a whole.
“With this competition, I hope to be able to work with young generation designers and expose them to the realities of the fashion business. Using advanced technology, we can make the industry more sustainable,” the designer said, who is also known as ‘Mama G’ in the fashion world.
The same night, Hung delighted audiences with a debut of her own fashion line called MMG (Master Mind Gen). The line offers unisex luxury streetwear that was mostly inspired by campy 80’s fashion. To the audience’s surprise, the designer used a variety of models and well-known people to display her designs, showcasing MMG’s adaptability.
Those on the runway include; model Amber Chia, Miss Malaysia World 2015 Emmeline Ng and celebrity hairstylist Albert Nico, who is also Kevin Murphy’s Malaysian ‘icon’ ambassador. The winners of The Hung Innovation Awards will be announced late this year. But before that, check out the top 10 finalists here;
