All Malaysians are brought up with the idea of unity and harmony among the community, regardless of race or religion. We are also taught to treat people fairly without judgement or bias. But sometimes, we do not realise that we ourselves display the very traits we frown upon – until someone holds a mirror up to us.
Just recently, Malaysians were presented with a study showing Malaysia being the second most racist country in the world. Right after that – a tweet surfaced, showing Malaysians’ reactions towards foreigners leaving their home countries to Malaysia. What we saw shocked us more than we imagined.
Malaysians are nice to foreigners only if they're white.
Don't believe me? Watch this video. A white dude came to Malaysia and received tons of welcoming replies on TikTok. Meanwhile a Nepalese dude left his country to find a job here and most Malaysians made fun of him 🙃 pic.twitter.com/fAFh07OH5T

The tweet is brought up by Big Ideas MY. It shows a comparison between two videos from two foreigners from different countries. One was from Nepal while the other from France. Both videos had the same angle – showing people that they were leaving their home country to visit Malaysia. And both of the videos had received tons of comments from Malaysians. What’s different though, is the nature of those comments.
The French man by the name of Valentin Anger is a white man, and his comments section is filled with Malaysians welcoming him and wishing him a great time. On the other hand, the video by the Nepalese man named Ajay Devgan ended up receiving a lot of negative comments joking about his spelling, his outfit and more.
Can you guess which is which? Sadly, the answer is quite obvious. This video clearly shows that Malaysians are more biased towards white-skinned people. If anything, this incident should be an eye-opener for all Malaysians. It’s important to treat people fairly, regardless of their skin colour.
