Malaysian actress Azira Shafinaz sparked controversy this week after she posted photos from her Bangkok trip on her Instagram. In particular, the De Fam member was severely criticised for wearing a dress that is apparently “too revealing” for the public.
A couple of days after the issue broke out, Azira has finally stepped forward to issue her response on the matter. The 31-year-old celeb admitted that she’s fully aware that the outfit she donned at that time may not be acceptable to many. At the same time, she also chose to not give further comments on the controversy.
“I don’t really have any comments about the issue (of me wearing a sexy dress). Because if I say something, then people might get it wrong, and they would come up with another speculation. But for me, I understand and realise that (the outfit) may be seen as inappropriate for most people. I always pray that one day, I will change for the better. I hope my fans can pray for me too,” the “Panas” singer told Gempak.
During the same interview, Azira also shared her response to getting name-called by internet trolls due to her inappropriate choice of outfits. She said, “Of course, we sometimes feel uncomfortable when people leave demeaning comments towards you. But this is the reality of being a celebrity, we still have to face this.
“I’ve been experiencing this kind of situation since back then. For instance, whether we cover our hair with hijab or not, people will still find fault with our appearance. I’m not saying that what I did was right, but just wish the best for me. I also used to read a lot of negative comments. I would be lying if I say that the comments didn’t affect me. Because as humans, we also have feelings. Some even went overboard with what they said, and it also makes me mad,” Azira added.
“That being said, you still have to be patient. You have to understand that there’s always consequences to your actions and also your postings. People will always have something to say, even if the intention is good or otherwise. In my case, I will make the effort to change for the better,” the “Penunggang Agama” actress was quoted as saying.
Azira was spotted during the gala premiere of her latest project, “One Cent Thief”. She plays the character Intan, who’s the best friend/love interest of the main character Iman Shah (played by Syafiq Kyle). Inspired by true events, “One Cent Thief” tells the story of Iman Shah, a bank officer who is desperate to fund his father’s medical cost, and also pay off his mounting debts. Using his intelligence, skills, and wits, he hacks the bank system to steal one cent from each bank account.
The action-packed thriller series is set to premiere simultaneously on Astro RIA (channel 104), Astro Shuang Xing (channel 307), Astro Vinmeen (channel 202), and Astro Primetime (channel 704) starting this Saturday (8th October).
