We understand taking care of a baby is a difficult task, but that does not justify leaving them in dangerous situations. Two cases of abandoned babies have been reported in the last two days, one in the middle of the street and the other near Bukit Jalil.
The first incident occurred on Saturday (24th September), when the account Jabatan Netizen Malaysia posted on Twitter about a baby found in the middle of Kg. Kirokot street near Kumawanan at 4am en route to Keningau. A trail of blood can be seen flowing from the side of the baby’s head in the images, suggesting that it is a newborn.

The following day, Sunday (25th September), @zahierhamir shared another similar incident on Twitter, in which a baby was discovered near the stalls surrounding the Bukit Jalil area. The baby was four months old, according to the Twitter user, and appeared to be kept in a plastic bag with a milk bottle. Before being abandoned, the baby had also been vaccinated.

Netizens were quick to condemn the actions of the parents in the comments. “In the middle of the road? What kind of person abandons their child in the middle of the road?” a netizen commented. Another user stated, “I had to wait 4 years for a child. It’s that easy for you to give up yours.”
Despite the parent’s despicable actions, there were some who tried to sympathise with them and considered their situation. “We shouldn’t accuse them (the parents) of abandoning their baby. I think they left the baby because of unsettled issues. Maybe she hoped that a kind-hearted person would take care of the baby,” a commenter expressed sympathy.
The baby discovered near Bukit Jalil is currently in the care of authorities, while there has been no word on the baby discovered on Kg. Kirokot street. In case you didn’t know, parents who are guilty of abandoning their child may face a prison sentence of 10 years or more under Penal Code Section 307.
