The wait is finally over, one of the most anticipated local singing competition, “Gegar Vaganza” (“GV”) is finally back for the 9th season!
The press conference for the upcoming reality show was held at KL Tower last night (Tuesday, 6th September). During the event, the 13 contestants for this year’s “Gegar Vaganza” were officially revealed to the public. Interestingly, some of the notable names in the lineup include vocal powerhouses Shila Amzah and Jaclyn Victor!
The full list of singers competing in this year’s “Gegar Vaganza” are as follows:
1. Shila Amzah
- First runner-up of “One In A Million” season 2 (2008), and placed 3rd in the singing show “I Am A Singer” (2014)
- Won “Anugerah Juara Lagu 36” and “The Masked Singer Malaysia” earlier this year.
- Popular songs: “Memori Tercipta”, “Patah Seribu”, “Masih Aku Cinta”
In an interview with Ria X, Shila revealed that she was personally contacted by Astro themselves to join the programme. Prior to “GV”, she emerged as the winner of another singing show, “The Masked Singer Malaysia”. “To tell you the truth, I lost my confidence to perform on stage, especially after all the drama that I went through before, that I don’t feel the need to reveal in detail. While participating in ‘Masked Singer’, people might not see that I was crying behind the ‘Rambutan’ mask that I wore. For ‘GV’, I think I’m ready to make a comeback as Shila Amzah.”
2. Jaclyn Victor
- Popular songs: “Gemilang”, “Bertamu Di Kalbu”, “Satu Harapan”
- Winner of “Malaysian Idol” season 1
- Jaclyn Victor is no stranger among fans of the local music scene. The talented songbird has begged home several awards throughout her more than 10 years stint in the industry.
When asked about the reason why she joined the show, Jac revealed, “To be frank, I wasn’t really keen on joining the show. It’s not that I’m scared, but as far as I know, when ‘GV’ first came out, the show featured several artistes that have not been active in the scene for a long time. So when I received the offer, I was like ‘No, no, no, I don’t want.’ But then again, Astro kept on ‘attacking’ (convincing) me from several angles. But I think that’s why I consider this as a healthy competition, working together with our fellow friends.”
3. Dina Nadzir
- Hit songs: “Malu Tapi Mahu”, “Cinta Datang Lagi”
- First runner-up of “Malaysian Idol” season 1, where Jaclyn Victor emerged as the winner (the duo will be competing against one another again in “Gegar Vaganza” season 9. 😉)
2. Tomok
- Member of the band New Boyz
- Hit songs: “Sejarah Mungkin Berulang”, “Aku Datang”, “Berlari”
- Winner of the third season of “One In A Million” back in 2009.
3. Pat Candy
- Full name: Nurul Nadhira Patricia Robert
- Hit song: “Akan Ku Tunggu”
- She’s married to music producer and guitarist Edrie Hashim.
4. V.E
- Members: Adeep Nahar, Cham, Luqman Hakim, Fakhiz
- Hit songs: “Pop Ye Ye”, “Party Like This”, “Ayu”, “Kerna Sayang”
5. Roy Kapilla
- Has recorded over five albums with his band, Kapilla.
- Popular songs: “Dikir Rambong”, “Merindu Tanpa Kata”, “Biar Berjauhan”.
6. Tom
- Full name: Raja Farah Afzal Raja Ikram
- Hit song: “Lagu Untuk Kuala Lumpur”
- Winner of “My Starz LG” season 3 (2009)
7. Fuad Rahman
- First runner-up of the Singaporean reality TV programme “Anugerah” back in 2003.
- Hit song: “Bila Rindu”
8. Asheed
- Vocalist of the rock band Def-Gab-C
- Hit songs: “Cinta Sakti”, “Ibukota Cinta”, “Merah”
9. Haida
- Hit songs: “Hajat”, “Manis Masa Bercinta”
- Famous in the mid-90s, the Selangor-born singer has recorded two albums, namely “Hajat” (1994) and “Besar Kemungkinan” (1996).
10. Hazrul Nizam
- Popular song: “Kaulah Segalanya”
- The Singaporean singer began his singing career at an early age of 18, he’s now 35 years old.
11. Bob Yusof
- Hit song: “Cinta Seorang Teman”
- Placed fifth in the reality TV show “Akademi Fantasia” season 2 (2004).
- He was also the finalist in “AF Megastar 2017”, where fellow AF alum Idayu won the competition.
