When one thinks of afternoon tea, it often puts us in mind of having tea in a garden somewhere feeling fancy. Well, instead of simply smelling the flowers, why not enjoy a meal inspired by them too?
In Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel’s Degustation Afternoon Tea for two, guests can enjoy confectionaries and savoury treats with a distinct floral touch. Served as a three-course meal, this tea session aims to bring your tongue on a gastronomical trip with their award-winning chefs’ signature dishes.
This three-course meal begins with several savoury bites, all from the sea. You can sample green-tea cured Norwegian Salmon served with a Mango Salsa, pan-fried Hokkaido Scallop with Cajun seasoning and Jasmine pineapple jam and fresh oyster with pickled cucumber, ginger gel and basil oil.
Each piece pairs the taste of the sea with something sweet that elevates the seafood to new heights. The salmon in particular left a memorable taste as the mango salsa added a touch of acidity to the dish, ensuring it was not too fishy.
Following that, guests will have their pick of several sweet and colourful treats. These confectionaries are what make their afternoon tea stand out. With ingredients like hibiscus, lavender and osmanthus, each piece has its own unique and surprising taste.
There are six treats to choose from, such as the Lavender-Cassis Éclair, Jasmine tea and Mango Lime Composition, Rose Framboise Millie-Feuille, Hibiscus and Peppered Strawberry Collaboration, Osmanthus & Melon Petit Gateau, and Chamomile Caramelised Rice & Lemon Variation. However, our personal favourite was ultimately the Rose Framboise Millie-Feuille. With a subtle sweetness and a clear but not overwhelming taste of rose, each bite was truly a delight on the tongue.
Finally, end your meal with a dessert from the live station; a Japanese soufflé pancake served with mango and passionfruit compote and nitrogen ice-cream. The fluffy pancake paired with the ice cream ensures a sweet treat. Of course, the compote adds a fruity and tangy flavour to balance out its saccharine taste.
Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel’s afternoon tea is available every Saturday and Sunday at the Link Cafe from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The tea set for two is available at RM188 and guests may inquire or make reservations at their website.
