Malaysian badminton fans have always enthusiastically expressed their love for badminton online. However, we have to admit, we don’t think we’ve met a Malaysian badminton fan as avid as YouTuber Darence Chan Wei Hoong (曾維宏).

Darence has garnered a following on his socials by posting about all-things badminton. He’s definitely dedicated to bringing worthwhile badminton content to his fans. In fact, he recently went to Birmingham, UK for the 2022 Commonwealth Games! Not only did he prove he’s a passionate fan, he’s also shown great love for Malaysia.

Malaysia is currently sitting pretty at 10th place with four gold, two silver and three bronze medals. It’s been a fierce competition, especially after shuttler Ng Tze Yong stole a win from India by beating their former World No.1.

However, while most of us have been supporting our Malaysian athletes from overseas, Darence hasn’t let the distance stop him. He travelled to Birmingham specifically for the badminton events and has been cheering the team on loudly. So loudly, in fact, that he managed to catch the attention of the camera crew.

TikToker @wawasado_ recently uploaded a video of Darence in the crowd. Apparently, the sport commentators noticed Darence when his cheering could be heard over the roar of the crowd. Darence was apparently singing the song “Saya Anak Malaysia (I’m a Child of Malaysia)” before switching to shouting, “Malaysia Boleh! (Malaysia Can Do It!)“.

Although some may have felt he was being too loud, other Malaysians were proud. “Thanks Bro,” one comment read. “(For) representing us in Malaysia (so that) Malaysia’s spirit can be felt in England.” Another said: “This is the kind of representation (for) fans that we want.” Many were also urging people to follow his YouTube channel “All About Darence”.

Well, Darence has truly shown that he’s a child of Malaysia! We hope he continues to keep up his fiery spirit and love for our  country.
