Did you hear? One of the most anticipated Korean movie, “Carter” (카터) , is set to make its grand premier on Netflix this week, and we couldn’t be more excited! For those who are curious, the movie stars famous actor Joo Won as the titular character.
The action-packed flick tells the story about Carter, an ace agent who suddenly wakes up with a memory loss. In order to regain his memory, he sets off on a hostage rescue mission rife with danger. The movie is helmed by director Jung Byung Gil, who’s well-known for the 2017 movie “The Villainess”. The duo attended the press conference for “Carter” which was held on Tuesday (2nd August) at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dongdae-mun, Seoul.
Interestingly, the film “Carter” is Joo Won’s first movie in seven years, after focusing solely on K-drama projects. His last movie, “Fatal Intuition”, was released in cinemas back in October 2015. So what drew the 35-year-old to participate in the film? Joo Won revealed during the press conference, “I wondered if I’ve been waiting for this project. It’s been such a long time since my last movie so I thought I should do this movie.”
“When I saw the script, I thought to myself, ‘is this even possible?’ but I wanted to try it,” Joo Won added during the session. “I thought that if I could do this well, it would be an iconic part of my career. So, I decided to take on the challenge. I was really into this work.”
Adding to that, Joo Won also went through an extreme transformation in order to portray his role as Carter in the movie. In particular, Joo Won revealed that he gained up to 7kg, apart from shaving his head, shedding the handsome guy image he has been known for in his previous projects. In addition, he even underwent up to four months of training and also diet to prep himself for the action scenes.
“There were scenes where I have to reveal my body. It would be the viewers’ first impression of Carter so I tried to bulk up as much as possible. This is the shortest hairstyle I’ve ever had. I made lots of changes, such as my voice, or the surgery marks on the back of my head, to look like Carter in all parts,” the “Bridal Mask” star was quoted as saying. He also joked that he “literally became like his character in the movie”, to the point where it was a little difficult for him to return as Joo Won after the filming.
“Carter” will be available to stream on Netflix from 5th August (this Friday). Watch the trailer here:
