Korean hijabi influencer Ayana Jihye Moon (문지혜 아야나) has caused quite a stir among netizens over a photo she posted on her IG recently. She shared a cute snapshot of herself while visiting her brother at his military camp in Seoul.
That being said, most of her followers were left puzzled when she was spotted without her hijab on. As seen in the photo, Ayana only covered some parts of her hair and also her aurat with a cap and a hoodie.
“Good morning from Ayana and Aydin. The real ‘Crash Landing On You’ haha. My brother @aydinmoon is doing his military duty now. The only Muslim serviceman in his camp. So proud of you 💪🏻💕” the 26-year-old captioned her post. As expected, the post was met with backlash from netizens online. Most of them condemned Ayana for not covering her aurat properly.
After facing massive backlash, Ayana later came up with a post on her Instagram Story in hopes to shed some light on the controversy. She opened by saying, “I tried to read most comments from you guys. Maybe there will be a chance (for me) to talk about the situation in South Korea later, if God wills.”
She continued by writing, “I still would like to say it is not correct to compare the situation of foreign Muslims with those of local Muslims (living in Korea) because we are facing a different situation as a local. However I do understand whatever you said, even though most of the comments were negative, because you don’t know the situation in Korea exactly.”
For those who don’t know, Ayana Moon officially embraced Islam when she was 16 years old. She has been relatively active in sharing with her followers about her journey in converting to the religion. Currently, the internet celeb is residing in Malaysia to pursue her studies.
