Technology has advanced so much that even cameras can be the size of a fly which makes it perfect for perverts to spy on their victims at public restrooms. We’ve heard plenty of spy camera stories in locker rooms and public toilets. That could make anyone paranoid.

More recently, an actual CCTV was pointed directly into one of the toilet stalls at a mall in Johor but thankfully someone noticed it and posted it online to warn others. However, spy cameras are harder to notice as they’re small enough to hide anywhere but sometimes our paranoia can get the best of us.

A woman, who goes by the name Mikayla Mühlberger, posted several photos on the Penang Today Community Facebook Group where she wrote that she found what looked like a camera lens inside the wall of one of the toilet stalls in the women’s restroom at GSC Gurney Plaza, Penang.

“Took a photo without flash and took another one with flash and you can clearly see someone planted the lens in the wall. 😡Anyways, I’ve already destroyed it with a sharp key 💁🏻‍♀️,” she said. In her post, she warned other women to be careful and check the toilet stalls before occupying them.

The Facebook post surprisingly got some mixed reactions with most commenting that it may not actually be a spy cam as they would usually require wires or batteries to operate and that taking out just the lens would not solve the problem. Others advised Mikayla that she should’ve reported it straight away to GSC with the evidence she took. There were also comments thanking her for the warning.

After the story went viral, GSC responded to netizens’ concerns about the spy cam. The Head of PR and Branding, Sharmine Ishak verified that the camera lens turned out to be a leftover screw.  “I’m unsure as to whether every toilet stall had the same kind of tissue dispensing holder, but the fourth toilet stall’s dispensing holder was previously dismantled and moved somewhere else, thus leaving the screw behind,” he told ChinaPress.

There you have it folks. Even though it wasn’t an actual spy cam, Mikayla did what she thought was right to protect herself and others. You can never be too careful these days.
