On 29th May, Tencent Variety released a video clip of the variety show “The New Journey (新游记)” featuring highlights of participants on the show. One of those clips involved Chinese rapper & ex-EXO member Huang Zi Tao (黄子韬) aka Z. Tao.
Tao had to team up with actor Yue Yun Peng (岳云鹏) to complete a task. Unfortunately, this required him to face his worse enemy: a live chicken.

The initial task was finding a Wish Bead that was hidden on top of a coconut tree. However, given that the tree was 5 metres tall and that neither one of them were avid climbers, the duo weren’t too keen. Luckily, the person in charge of the area offered them a tool to make their job easier. The catch? He needed them to obtain a live chicken for him.
Needless to say, Tao immediately lost all motivation for the mission. “Do you know how much I had to suffer just to handle a chicken?” he asked the person-in-charge. Apparently, the last time he had handled a live chicken was during the variety show “Takes a Real Man (真正男子汉)” back in 2017. It was a memorable experience, if for the wrong reasons.
Well, props to Tao, he buckled down and tried his best to nab a feathery friend. However, his methods were a little unconventional. Tao tried talking to them, to stalking them to finally bargaining with them. “Can you let me catch you?” he was heard saying to one. “Please be considerate. My legs don’t feel good. Chicken, please. I’ll let you go right away, okay?” Unfortunately, the chicken wasn’t convinced and it ran away.

On the other hand, Yun Peng had successfully caught a chicken and got their team the much needed tool. Seconds after realising Yun Peng had done it, Tao gave up on his mission and complimented his teammate on his success.
The unexpected rivalry between Tao and the chickens sent fans into fits of laughter. Many also took to Weibo to console their idol with encouraging comments for having to deal with chickens yet again. Well, kudos to Tao for giving it his best at least!
