Cases of harassments involving e-hailing drivers are becoming increasingly visible, with most of the victims being women. Just yesterday (Sunday, 29th May), a Twitter user, known as Michi K (@sinowicked) detailed an uncomfortable experience she encountered with her Grab driver recently.
The female netizen also accompanied her post with a photo of the male driver. As seen in another screenshot uploaded on her socials, it appears that he has an average 4.9 star rating on the app. In her complaint to the e-hailing company, Michi claimed that the driver made some lewd remarks about her appearance.
Michi further revealed that when she expressed her discomfort, the driver suddenly stopped in the middle of the highway and refused to drive any further. The driver proceeded to drive recklessly when she refused to leave the vehicle. Feeling threatened and unsafe, she then opened the car door to stop him from driving, and attempted to escape.
After successfully getting off the car, the female passenger managed to make her way to the nearest petrol station and booked another ride from there. However, she said the driver continued to call her all sorts of names as she left the car. Not only that, the uncle even said that she was lucky it was daytime or else he’d drive her somewhere to rape her!
This has also prompted Grab Malaysia to issue their response on the issue. The e-hailing company replied to Michi’s tweet by saying, “We are sorry to hear this Michi 😥 We will follow up on this and rest assured that necessary action will be taken. This is unacceptable and we have forwarded the driver details to our disciplinary team. Once again, we apologise for this bad experience in this booking.”

In another thread, Michi also shared that she will lodge a police report on Monday (today, 30th May). She went on and explained, “The car was a taxi. As I was leaving, I shouted, ‘I’m going to make sure grab fires you,’. He replied, ‘Fire me then, I don’t care. I’m a taxi. I hope his license gets suspended forever so he can’t hurt anymore people in the future.”
Following Michi’s revelation, many angered netizens took to the comments section to call the driver out for his improper behaviour. Read what they said here:
Apart from lodging a police report, there were also some netizens who suggested Michi to consult an attorney regarding the incident.
