Chinese singer Yu Yan (喻言) has been slapped with plagiarism accusation! Recently, the 25-year-old star was called out for allegedly copying Taeyeon (태연)’s “INVU” music video.
For starters, the “Youth With You” alum dropped the music video for her new song “Who” yesterday (Thursday, 26th May). However, some sharp-eyed fans were quick to notice some of the glaring similarities between the song’s futuristic-themed video and Taeyeon’s MV, which was released back in February.
In order to prove their point, netizens posted numerous frame-by-frame comparisons between the two videos. They discovered numerous scenes that appear to be a direct copy from Taeyeon’s “INVU” music video. In one scene, Yu Yan is seen dancing in a space filled with marble pillars, walls, and furniture with her backup dancers. A similar scene is seen in Taeyeon’s “INVU” video. Both of them also wore white outfits in the aforementioned scenes.
Others found that both of the MVs had many details that were highly similar to each other. This include the settings such as the moon, the lake, the desert, among others. During the scene in the desert, in particular, Yu Yan is seen wearing a brown outfit. Burning buildings and meteors showering are also featured in the scene. Again, fans can see a similar scene featured in the K-pop solo artiste’s music video.
In addition, there’s also a scene featuring the former THE9 member with backup dancers, with their feet submerged in the water. In the “INVU” MV, Taeyeon can also be spotted doing something similar. Besides the settings, netizens also pointed out that their styling in both of their videos look similar to each other. As seen in one of the screenshots posted online, both Yu Yan and Taeyeon can be seen sporting similar rhinestone eye makeup look.
Needless to say, netizens were less than impressed with the uncanny resemblance. Most of them took to social media to put Yu Yan and her team on blast. They pointed out that her music video looked like a “cheap copy” of Taeyeon’s MV. Here are some of the highlighted comments left by them:
- “Even if you don’t know anything, you can tell (that) there’s a lot of similarities.”
- “What is up with the quality (of the video)? If they want to copy, at least do it properly.”
- “They have so many people living there, but none of them has the creativity.”
- “It looks f**king bad.”
- “Even if they keep copying, it still looks cheap.”
