UOB Painting of the Year (POY) is back! With the 2022 UOB Painting of the Year competition, artists are invited to share their stories and take us on a journey of imagination. UOB Malaysia has launched the UOB Malaysia 71st Anniversary Special Campaign as part of the competition to commemorate the bank’s 71st anniversary.
The UOB Painting of the Year competition is the United Overseas Bank’s flagship regional visual arts programme, aimed at discovering and nurturing artists across the region. It is one of Southeast Asia’s most prestigious annual art awards. The 2021 UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year-winning artwork by Malaysian artist Saiful Razman, titled “Walk in Silence, Don’t Walk Away in Silence,” inspired this year’s programme identity design.

Through the competition, emerging and established artists can showcase their artistic mastery and compete for the grand prize of RM100,000 or US$35,000. The winning artwork from the special campaign will be displayed on the exterior of a public mass rail transit (MRT) train that will travel throughout the Klang Valley. The UOB Painting of the Year winner will also have the opportunity to participate in a residency programme at the renowned Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan.
The Painting of the Year competition is open to all citizens and permanent residents of the organising country. Entries are judged under two categories: Established Artist Category or Emerging Artist Category, and neither category has an age limit. Each participant may submit a maximum of three paintings.

Participating artworks will be judged according to criteria placed such as message, creativity, composition, and technique. A panel of local and/or overseas artists, art connoisseurs, art critics, curators, or other creative professionals by UOB will judge the artworks submitted. More details on the competition can be found here.
