Universal Music Malaysia, Def Jam Recordings Malaysia, and Celebrity 360 joined hands and held their first Raya open house together. It also commemorated Universal Music Malaysia’s first Islamic sub-label, Masyhur.
Several local talents under Universal Music Malaysia and Def Jam Recordings Malaysia such as DOLLA, Insomniacks, The Gadys, Razzuan Rosli, Yonnyboii, Siqma, ASYRAF NASIR, Kmy Kmo, and Luca Sickta entertained the guests, media, and brand partners. Also performing were Wani Kayrie of Rocketfuel Entertainment and Airliftz of RedRecords.
The sub-label – established in 2020 – oversees this year’s new releases from artists such as Fattah Amin, Mestica & Dato Hattan, and a compilation album in collaboration with Begood Music titled “Zikir Rintihan Hati”. Through the launch of Masyhur, Universal Music Malaysia revealed its latest talent search initiative through a web series called Masyhur Redefined. It will be featuring Faizal Tahir as the primary judge alongside celebrity judges as mentors to young Malaysians who want to take a shot at stardom in the music industry.
Masyhur also shared their 2021 initiative “Kongsi Rezeki” – a six-part YouTube series with Begood Music showcasing the spirit of volunteerism and importance of community-building relationships amongst Malaysians – and organised the Youth Street Music Festival for the first time in 2020 at various locations such as KPTM Cheras and Asia Pacific University featuring In-Team, Yonnyboii, Halim Ahmad, Shalma Eliana or YANA, Dai’ Syed, ASYRAF NASIR, and Luca Sickta.
The Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia Kim Lim said, “Having the chance to celebrate Aidilfitri with the team, our artists and partners together with our media friends, it’s made what seemed a challenging last two years’ worth it. I’m truly honoured to celebrate Universal Music Malaysia’s expansion through its continuous objective in diversifying our music releases, business portfolio and creative marketing initiatives.”
