Local artiste Namewee (黄明志) had recently released a new single “Be Like Him (像他一样)” with an accompanying music video that starred professional footballer and coach Thierry Henry. In the video, Thierry is an inspiration to a young boy who strives to be like him in the sport as well.
The single also features Kuching-born artiste, Pricilla Abby (蔡恩雨). Her strong vocals add versatility to the song, motivating listeners not to give up their dreams and be like their role models.

According to Namewee, the music video was shot in Malaysia and the United Kingdom. He had personally invited Henry to be part of the music video before this year’s World Cup tournament and was stoked to have him be a part of the music video. For those that don’t know, the rapper is a big fan of the World Cup football tournaments.
By looking up to the King of Pop Michael Jackson since young, Namewee notes, “He always challenged himself to do better, challenging societal norms and wrote his own music and style to challenge the music industry then.” He continued, “Even though he was rebellious, it was due to that rebellious nature he was able to create music that could influence many. In real life. he was still concerned about social justice and the voices of the world.” Namewee firmly believes that a successful artist should be brave and willing to stand for what’s right.

In other news, his hit song “Fragile Heart (玻璃心)” which features Australian-born Malaysian singer Kimberly Chen (陈芳语) had been nominated for ‘Song of The Year’ in the 33rd Golden Melody Awards. His latest album “Ghostician 鬼才做音乐” had also been nominated for the ‘Best Album Design award in the same award show!
“This is my 7th year of being nominated for the Golden Melody Awards. And, 7 is a lucky number and I do believe it would bring me good luck and win my nominations.” Namewee said, expressing his joy at being nominated for the two awards. Namewee certainly has a lot to celebrate and we couldn’t be prouder of him 😉
