Cosplay and Anime conventions are one of the only times you are free to dress however you like, especially as your favourite fictional character. Cosplayers come together to celebrate and show off their hard work of bringing the characters to life.
Anime Fest was recently held at Paradigm mall last weekend and it’s been quite a while since we had a big anime and cosplay event after 2 years of Covid restrictions. Many would take this opportunity to cosplay as their favourite characters but some people may have taken it too far.

Few young men went to Anime Fest dressing up as maids and while the action of cosplaying itself is not wrong, the way they presented their maid outfits may be a bit too much. In a Twitter post shared by user @rationalmalay showed screenshots of Insta stories by cosplayer @miira_mhc.
The post gained 1.7k retweets and over 300 quote tweets. The screenshots shows one cosplayer in a maid outfit posing with a chain dog leash around his neck and the other photo shows another maid cosplayer with his back fully exposed.
The maid cosplayer with the dog leash reached out to Lobak Merah via Twitter Direct Message (DM) to make his apology. “I thought the outfit was not too revealing and also my pose was just me acting all cute like a cat,” he said. He also mentioned in his DM that he had no intention of offending or making anyone uncomfortable and promised to be more considerate in the future.

The maid cosplays got mixed reactions by netizen. Some defended the men saying that they’re free to do so at a cosplay event while others believe that they should be more considerate as this is a public event where even children are attending.

In other news, a local cosplayer shared her experience of being sexually harassed by a ‘fan’ at the Anime Fest. Unfortunately, police ignored her official report and slut-shamed her saying that she deserved the consequences for cosplaying.
