Raya may be over for some, but others are still making the most of their holidays! One family in particular decided to head up to Genting Highlands. However, an unexpected accident derailed their plans.
In the midst of driving, their car apparently caught fire. To make matters worse, the car started rolling backwards at one point, while still on fire! The incident was caught on video by a TikTok user who happened to witness the situation.
The incident had reportedly taken place about 1.44pm on 9th May. TikTok user @ren.pmx happened to be passing by in a cable car when they saw a South Korean Hyundai sedan which was on fire, start rolling backwards down the road. Other vehicles and people could be seen trying to get out of its way. However, its worrisome journey came to an abrupt end when its rear collided with a Toyota Vellfire SUV.
The family of five who had been in the fiery car, managed to get out safely. Facebook group 我们是马来西亚人 We are Malaysians claims that someone had been attempting to extinguish the fire before it started rolling backwards. However, it is suspected that the hand brake had given way, leading to it rolling downhill.
Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue department stated they had dispatched people to the area after receiving a report. They managed to bring the fire under control by 2.03pm and finally extinguished it by 2.32pm. Thankfully, no one was injured.
Authorities have yet to announce the cause of the fire. However, an auto mechanic shared that most car fires are caused by it short circuiting and overheating. As such, he advised car owners to check their vehicle’s conditions before starting off on a journey. He also added that they should send their cars for regular repairs.
