Lee Chong Wei (李宗伟) is currently living his best life right now. In addition to holidaying at a resort by the beach with his family (wife Wong Mew Choo with sons Kingston and Terrance), the Olympic medalist has apparently gotten himself a spanking new vehicle.
According to China Press, the 39-year-old Malaysian athlete had recently purchased a BMW iX xDrive40 Sport. The BMW iX has a new 2022 tax-free price, and ranges between RM 419,630 – RM472,630. It comes in 5 colour options – Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect Metallic, Phytonic Blue, Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic and Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic.

The Chinese publication also suggests that Lee Chong Wei might be the first in Malaysia to receive the new BMW iX xDrive40 Sport. Ever since retiring from the badminton sport, the legendary shuttler has been dabbling in housing development, brand ambassadorship (he’s the face of teahouse chain CHAGEE), and other businesses. As a car freak himself, our national badminton champion has no shortage of luxury cars. In fact a few years ago, Chong Wei made headlines when he bid RM97,777 for the number plate BMW6 in 2014 and RM69,100 on car number plate BLG1 for his Ferrari F430 in 2012.
For the uninitiated, the all-new iX is a full electric vehicle equipped with 5th-generation BMW eDrive technology and it is powered by a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a net energy content of 71kWh. When you put the pedal to the metal, the BMW iX xDrive40 Sport can effortlessly and silently accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds (top speed is 200km/h).

Perhaps Chong Wei will take us on the road virtually soon?
