For most people, we are grateful for an edit button on most social media platforms as a lot of us hate seeing typos, grammatical errors and in some cases we forgot to add 1 (maybe 3) words in a sentence. Unfortunately, Twitter currently does not have this feature so we’d have to reply or quote our tweet in order to “fix” our errors.

But those days may be over soon because it has been reported that Twitter will one day add an Edit button feature. This feature has been requested by users for so long but has been brushed off by the company and their reasons are understandable.

now that everyone is asking…

yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year!

no, we didn’t get the idea from a poll 😉

we're kicking off testing within @TwitterBlue Labs in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.

Twitter Communications recently announced on Twitter that the company is working on an edit button feature since last year. So far, they haven’t announced an official release date for the feature itself as they are still testing it to learn more on what works and what doesn’t.

While many would like Twitter to have an ‘Edit Tweet’ button to fix their spelling or grammar mistakes, some users with malicious intention might take advantage of that which is the reason why Twitter has been putting off the feature for the longest time.

In an interview back 2020, Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey explained even further why there hasn’t been an edit button and that they’ve actually acknowledged and considered it but are afraid that it will do more harm than good.

Netizens also have mixed reactions to the announcement. Some are okay with the edit feature but there’s also those that are very much against it for the same reasons Twitter had over the years. Some also gave suggestions on how to make it better.

Twitter’s Head of Consumer Product, Jay Sullivan explained in his thread on the progress and the team’s careful considerations on approaching the feature.

An Edit button feature can be both a beautiful and dangerous thing. Whatever the case, let’s hope Twitter takes everyone’s concerns into consideration so they don’t regret on their decision on developing an edit button. What are your thoughts?
